Description

The Wendigo is a creature of North American (Algonquian speaking cultures) origin, part man, part beast and part tree, he is said to be born of one who has consumed human flesh. The hunger grows and grows until the man's soul is as warped as his body.

The Wendigo - by all accounts a spelling free-for-all - is a cannibalistic spirit associated with Winter, famine, cold and the North. Either a man becomes a Wendigo by resorting to cannibalism, or the spirit possesses him through a dream.

"The Weendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tautly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Weendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody. Unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Weendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption."

Thank you, wikipedia for that fascinating and absolutely terrifying description. Which I only looked up after I drew this, so I'm glad I got it right.

There is also such an animal as Wendigo Psychosis, which is "a condition in which sufferers developed an insatiable desire to eat human flesh even when other food sources were readily available, often as a result of prior famine cannibalism."

On a lighter note; "Give him another ear, Ruth. Life is hard enough with a face like that" - Daddy~

This was done this afternoon in clutch pencil and edited in Gimp.

In other news, I practically pissed myself reading up on this. Guess who's not sleeping tonight?
